What is the value of COGNOS PowerPlay to our IQSC members?

In our continuing efforts to transform data into information, IQSC members now have access to an interactive Web based reporting tool, COGNOS PowerPlay. This tool provides access to administrative public domain hospital discharge data as well as AHRQ Quality Indicator data. COGNOS touts that this product enables users to explore large volumes of summarized data with sub-second response times in a a Web environment. User at any technical skill level can perform their own multidimensional analysis, create reports, and share them for better decision-making.

This tool is of value for examining:

• the immediate IQSC membership area hospitals compared to your facility.
• trending on mortality, length of stay and charges, as well as severity of illness, risk of mortality , and other factors that are present in the THCIC public domain data.
• physician referral and practice patterns for members hospitals that agree to participate in the physician data sharing agreement.

The IQSC has been delivering public use data in an access database, AHRQ reports (Inpatient Quality Indicators), LeapFrog reports, community reports on APR-DRGs, DRGs, length of stay and charges for several years. These data and reports are available on-line through COGNOS PowerPlay for licensed users. This tool provides the ability to generate reports and graphics quickly and efficiently with on-line access. Analysts that have been using the DI data and reports estimate that it will save them hundreds of man-hours.
