A look back at the 1989 Annual Awards Luncheon

THROWBACK THURSDAY: In 1989, 25 years ago next month, the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council (DFWHC) hosted its Annual Awards Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Reunion. David Brinkley (middle) was the keynote speaker. Scott Pelley (right), at that time a reporter for Ch. 8 WFAA-TV, received the Distinguished Media Award for his story “The Price of Mercy” detailing medical care for the poor. Today, Pelley is the anchor of CBS Evening News and a correspondent for 60 Minutes.

The National Anthem was performed by Sharon Balthrop of VA Medical Center. David Hitt, the long-time president of Baylor University Medical Center, received the Boone Powell, Sr. Award of Excellence. Louis A. Beecherl, Jr. of Texas Oil & Gas, was the Distinguished Health Service Award recipient. Serving as Master of Ceremonies was DFWHC Board Chair John Hawkins, CEO of Fort Worth Osteopathic Medical Center.
